Boom Logistics’ partnership with Perth Glory’s A-League Women’s (ALW) team is a collaboration that does not simply focus upon backing women in sport.

It is also about recognising and fostering leadership talent among players, shining a light on potential career pathways and upskilling athletes in preparation for their post-professional football lives.

As preparations continue for a pre-ALW game event to celebrate both the partnership and International Women’s Day, company CEO and Managing Director Ben Pieyre highlighted the strong alignment of culture and values between Boom Logistics and Perth Glory.

“Of course, we want to promote women’s sport in the community and shine a spotlight on these athletes who are working incredibly hard to achieve their goals and are setting a stellar example for our young people,” he said.

“But it’s also about identifying future talent and leaders and learning how we can better drive diversity of all kinds in our business, especially at leadership level.

“If we miss out on having women in our business, we are missing out on the talent and skills of 50 per cent of the population.”

Glory’s commitment to prioritising hard work, promoting diversity and being a force for good is exemplified by the decision made by club co-captain Izzy Dalton to contribute one per cent of her salary to charity Common Goal’s Equal Play initiative.

Ms. Dalton explained the thinking behind her involvement with Equal Play and how it ties in with the wider responsibility she feels to help create a clearer pathway for young female footballers.

“The goal [of Equal Play] is to get more people from all walks of life into football because often, the representation in terms of leadership or players is predominantly male,” she said.

“Pledging part of my salary allows for funds to be used for these purposes.

“It’s allowed me to take on a different type of leadership that I haven’t in the past, which is critical for my learning and growth and definitely something I’m proud of.

“Now girls have that chance, to have a vision that they can become a truly professional footballer.

“That is huge and it is absolutely something they should pursue.”

Mr.
Pieyre confirmed that Dalton’s commendable commitment was one of a number of factors behind Boom’s decision to expand their relationship with Glory from that of coaching staff sponsors to major ALW partners.

“We look at the future of our business and then at the leadership provided by Izzy and the other players on the pitch, from the coaching staff and from the leadership team and it is very inspiring,” he said.

“We are really hoping to bring in, nurture and develop the next leaders and innovators.”

Mr. Pieyre went on to discuss the community engagement aspect of the partnership, notably the Girls for Glory program run by Glory ALW Assistant Head Coach, Tiana Gauci.

“Giving young people access to a team sport where they can socialise and learn new skills is critical to wellbeing,” he said.

“The Girls for Glory program helps establish Glory’s ALW players as visible and accessible role models for young aspiring female footballers and also provides support for local community groups and teams.”
